When I pay tax will I get help with my prescriptions

Hi,I will be paying tax this year on our holiday let apartment that we rent out.I am sure I have read somewhere that when I’ve paid tax I will get financial help towards my prescriptions.I am 59 years of age and am paying €250 a month for my prescriptions as 1 of my tablets is €92 a box and I have to buy 2 of those a month.As well as my boyfriend and I paying €215 a month for private health insurance.Luckily our bills are not high.We are both residents.Any help would be appreciated.Thank you.Julie

That depends. Are you on the Spanish NHS system with a SIP card? Simply paying income tax does not give you access to the health system and the amount you pay is combined in your SIP card. If you see a private doctor then you continue to pay for the prescriptions and, even if you go on to the convenio especial for NHS care, it does not cover the cost of prescriptions.

Those on the Spanish NHS pay between 40 and 60 percent of the cost and pensioners will pay 0 or 10% of the cost depending on their earnings.

If just one of you is over pensionable age and drawing a state pension, you can both get a SIP card but you say "boyfriend" and I don't think that counts. Just spouses or official civil partnerships.

You could try giving your ethic card to pharmacy at the same time as the prescription & see if you get discount. They used to about 20 years ago but might be different since Brexit. Have you tried getting a temporary SIP card? Not sure if you still can.

EHIC cards cannot be used by residents in Spain.
Temporary SIP cards do not have the income information to give a discount.

It looks like I will have to keep paying for my prescriptions.Thank you all though for your help.Julie

I take it you are UK resident?
Obvious question - Can you not get your prescription in the UK to take with you to Spain?

OP says they are both residents.

Stand corrected regarding residency.
What about an on-line pharmacy - UK or Spain? Is that an alternative? Cost?
