It’s a box shaped percussion instrument originating in Peru. Just like the one in the picture.

It's traditionally played in flamenco orchestras where the player sits on the box and drums it.
Cajònes means drawer - not to be confused with cojones!

They are played all round the area where drum kits are too loud or no room, being a keyboard player I encounter them all the time ! Even the brit musicians here play them ! When mic'd up they sound very impressive...I might even enroll myself !
