I am looking for volunteer work at animal shelters. Any tips or recommendations on contacts ?

The municipal dog and cat pound near Carrefour. You can get the dogs out and walk them, give them some love and attention.

I volunteer at the Cats and Dogs Aid Quesada shelter but it may be too far for you as it's near Catral.
The Torrevieja Municipal Shelter are always looking for volunteers, especially for the cats.
Other charities you could contact are:
Big Reds
K9 based in La Marina
Finca de Castelllano base in San Miguel
Sat's Animal Rescue.
