Warning for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in Benimar

Warning for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in Benimar

Postby Shiva » Thu Feb 08, 2024 6:32 pm

A warning to everyone thinking of visiting Benimar Plaza. Especially drivers and cyclists but pedestrians need to be careful as well. They have just painted a new 'cycle lane' in the plaza. In the MIDDLE of the road. There appears no rhyme nor reason other than making this as dangerous as possible for everyone. ( If anyone on here can give a plausible set of reasonings as to how this complete road hazard could be a good thing, please enlighten us all.)

In the meantime, a heads up to everyone a) to be aware of this hazard to avoid accidents b) to be careful in case they could end up getting fined - there are no permissible crossing hatches so presumably a driver looking to enter or exit the local car park, or go to the Vets, etc is meant to carry on to the next roundabout and come back, in other words no more turning left or right at the junction.
Pics attached.

Saw this today. Fantastic. If you cannot drive without hitting cyclists in those lanes, you should really hand in your driving licence.

Bike lanes in the middle have been in Benidorm for ages.

Surely solid white lines work both ways so just the same as motorists cyclists should not cross them. Their only entry and exit points should be either at the ends or on foot at the pedestrian crossings.

Yeah, that's gonna work init!

Prehaps the total works are not finnised yet, same as the road to nowhere across the road, next to the kitchen makers.

Who has right of way when a car needs to turn left into another street. A car in the right lane turning left (for example) should not have to give way to some moron on a bike thinking he owns the road travelling up on the left "undertaking". A stupid policy that will only cause confusion and accidents. Cyclists, are already pandered to enough, and the arrogance they (some) have is unbelievable.

I think whoever designed this was drinking too much sangria at the time or drugged up

If this is the plan then the sooner they do the same all the way up Benijofar High St. the better - AND enforce it!

On more than one occasion I've been caught in a stream of cars held up by a gaggle of Lycra clad bikists crawling up the hill two or even 3 abreast meaning that in all likelihood you'll be stuck with that all the way to Quesada because they for sure won't be using the cycle lanes specifically built for them along that route.

That photograph of the cyclist on the road has made my day. Great photography. Thanks.
It may take some time for the message to get through.
