Help with car information

If we fetch a car over from lanzorate that's registered on spanish plates already will we have to pay duty on if we fetch it to Quesada to remain there. Thanks

Is it your own car and was it purchased in Tenerife and have you owned it as a resident for 12 months. As the Canary Islands are duty free they don't come under the same VAT/duty regime as Mainland Spain. You should ask a local Gestor in Tenerife what regulations apply to you. If you are relocating having lived in Tenerife for previous 12 months then you may be exempt from extra charges but you will probably need to complete export documents.

Thanks Bee. No we don't own the car yet a friend is selling up and fetching it back to the UK and we thought we might buy it from him and drive it to Spain and use it.

Hi I purchased a vehicle from grand canaries on Spanish plates and had to pay out about €1200 taxes and gestor. It was a lot of paperwork and time, I was caught out as I thought being on Spanish plates I only needed to change ownership.If I had known I would not have bought it, I landed up paying out more than it was worth.
