From my own experience Santander keep the cards in branch, stock pile them in the desk drawer. I’ve been to ask about the same, only for the cashier to open a drawer, grab the largest pile of envelopes in one hand, and flick through them with the other, and produce my card. She told me they often don’t post them direct to the customer.
