Humax decoder problems - again

Humax decoder problems - again

Postby Les,webb » Sun Apr 07, 2024 2:16 pm

Hi, We've got a 4k Humax satellite decoder, 18 months old & the bl**dy hard drive has packed in, so are unable to record..

I've looked on utube & it's dead easy to replace but a new one costs about €70. A new decoder on Amazon de is around €140, is it worth it?

My main query is If I buy one in Europe will it be able to see our s particular atellite ( Astra I think ).

I realise this is an old chestnut, maybe a local Sat business can help, when I aquired this one none of the local companies had them, maybe dud to the dreaded Bre**t word.
Appreciate any constructive advice Thanks

Hard drive are easy and cheap to buy from amazon I use WD drives and select the ones they sell for Video recording have replaced quite a few lately
This is the drive I prefer designed for heavy but steady recording for PVR machines

Do not get SSD drives they will not last as they are made for heavy readback not heavy recording

It is very posible that your existing drive is ok and just needs to be reformatted back to Ext4 I have done a few

If you do buy a new box then just rescan it to Astra 28E satelite

I bought a new hard drive for my box from Quesada Computers a few years ago. It is easy to fit but they did it for me

Maybe a solution. I have a Seagate hard drive in a old Humax box which I think is OK.

My question to the more technically aware members is:

Can I put this in my Freesat box without blowing the whole thing up, the one in there has definitely thrown a six???? it's the same 500 gb,

To phyically chang it out is relatively simple, (saw the video on utube)

Thanks in advance

You can put the Seagate hard drive in and should have no problems the Humax box will format the drive so you will lose any data on it
