Spain to do away with the 'Golden Visa' scheme...

Was bound to happen. Whilst it was considered a scheme to stimulate the housing crash post 2008 it actually became a scheme abused by wealth Chinese,Indian and Russians to gain residency.

Most EU countries have stopped it or in the process of ending it. Not sure if UK will, doubt it, London especially loves Russian money.

Obviously here in Spain, especially with the renting crisis amongst younger Spaniards at entry level, it's a popular move, the €500k Visa properties were never aimed at that market.

It is obvious that the Golden Visa was aimed purely at attracting the rich and their money no matter where it came from. One look at the house market in Spain and anyone can see these properties are all at the upper end. The vast majority of expats are below this figure. The housing crisis was just an excuse.

UK Golden Visa was scrapped in February ‘22.
