Things for kids in Torrevieja

Postby markstokeshughes80 » Sat Apr 05, 2014 9:06 pm

am looking at coming torrevieja next august are kids will be 5 and 1. I am wondering what is there for kids to do there? is there anywhere in the area which has trampolines and bouncy castles and a play park for children? Maybe a small fairground ride?. would I get this in any part or torrevieja or am I looking in wrong place? I am a bit confused with all the different areas, From what I have read Torrevieja is a huge place separated into smaller 'areas' am I right??and if so what part would you recommend looking at staying in that be good for kids any info be great.cheers

:text-welcomewave:
Welcome to the forum. Hope you find it helpful. As you are coming in August and the weather will be lovely you should be spoilt for choice. If you are in the centre of Torrevieja you will have quite a few local beaches around you and parks. Most parks have play areas and there is often a local fun-fair near the marina that may have one or two kiddie rides.

Also there is a water park near a place called La Siesta in Torrevieja which should be open in August and, supposedly, is ideal for the little ones. Details are on this link with location, map and streetview: waterparks-aquaparks-in-quesada-maps-addresses-opening-times-contact-details-f96/aquapark-flamingo-la-siesta-torrevieja-t2034.html

There is also a very large park in Torrevieja called the Park of Nations and it has a playground for children with a life size dragon slide, a train ride and a lake with swan pedallo's. There are also peacocks and cockerels running free in the park to delight the children (well they always delight me. LOL )

The 'Park of Nations' is in the centre of Torrevieja, only a few minutes walk from the sea-front and lies between the CV-90 road, the main N-332 coastal road and the road called Calle Villa de Madrid. There is no entrance fee and it's open until 9 p.m.

I'm sure you will find lots of things for the children in Torrevieja. Hopefully some of our members may tell you about other places for them.

Torrevieja is a town of about 100,000 people that goes up to over half a million in the summer months. It is quite large with many of the surrounding towns and suburbs now joining seamlessly onto it. For example, the Orihuela Costa in the south is a separate town with many communities but you wouldn't know you'd left Torrevieja. To the north, La Mata now joins on and several other locations like La Siesta and San Luis all form part of the greater area.
By the central port is a fairground that is open in the evenings. This has rides, bouncy castles and all the other fairground attractions you would expect. Please bear in mind that it is extremely hot in August with temperatures still pushing 30C in the evenings and very humid. Kids spending 5 minutes on a bouncy castle will get extremely hot and sweaty so beware of dehydration and carry plenty of water.
The main attractions in Torrevieja are the beaches which stretch all the way along the coastline. Some have childrens playgrounds but we noticed some were quite rusty with sharp bits of metal so be aware of that.
In the Orihuela Costa area, there are some lovely beaches but make sure the kids stay well away from the buoyed areas as the tidal current is quite strong around the rocks. There is also a play park with bouncy castle and a go kart area just on the N322 (the main road going through).
The water park in Torrevieja has big slides, many rides and other attractions. It is not cheap but they do have offers like next day free or weekly family tickets so look out for those.
This forum is for Quesada which is about 10km away from Torrevieja. We have our own water park with slides and so on. Not as large or exciting as the Torrevieja one but much cheaper.
As mentioned, the Flamingo water park as La Siesta is ideal for the younger ones. Cheaper, small pools with small slides (and a couple of bigger ones) make it a great day out and the sunbeds and tables are very close to the pools so you can keep an eye on the kids.
Enjoy your time. Torrevieja is not a brash, in your face holiday resort like Benidorm or Torremolinos. It is mainly people who own property there and many Spanish keep holiday flats to escape the oppressive inland heat during August (most government building and offices close for the whole of August as do building works and many other outdoor jobs) especially those from Madrid. The main attractions are the beaches and, especially in the summer, the many fine restaurants and bars (not so good for the young kids).

:text-goodpost: but can I just clarify the point highlighted above for those who may not realise - The TalkQuesada forum does have a TalkTorrevieja forum within it and I have redirected this post into the Torrevieja general discussion forum (if you look above, on the bar under the orange bar, you will see you are there), although it can still be seen in the Quesada discussion forum, so we can all have a chance to answer it.

I often redirect posts that are about Torrevieja into the Torrevieja forum as some members and guests who are more interested in the Torrevieja area may go straight there (although everything can still be seen in the Quesada general discussion forum).

Sorry if it seems confusing but it doesn't change the way we browse the forum.

Thanks for all the brilliant info above marcliff.

La Mata is a very nice traditional Spanish town and the beach is lovely. LaMata (or the full name Torrelamata) is a suburb of Torrevieja. There is a street market once a week and there are restaurants and bars but the town is a bit quieter than Torrevieja. Personally, I would rather stay in La Mata than in the centre of Torrevieja as I think the La Mata beach is one of the better beaches near Torrevieja. Here's a link with details of the beach:
beaches-near-quesada-and-torrevieja-f102/torrelamata-la-mata-beach-costa-blanca-t2184.html

There are buses that go to and from Torrevieja but, as with all Spanish buses, they are not like UK buses and we have to be aware of the times as they sometimes have a few hours (siesta) in the day when they may not be running. There are some bus details on this website link, if it helps (not sure how up to date it is but it could give you an idea): http://www.lamatainformation.com/bus-times/
