Ceiling Fans

Ceiling Fans

Postby Theboundary » Thu Jul 19, 2018 8:05 am

I recently purchased one of the new style ceiling fans. While it works perfectly there is a slight humming noise from the motor that I find irritating.
Does this indicate a problem with the fan or do I need to purchase a set of good ear plugs?

mine hum slightly, but they are 14yrs old, try tightening the screws up on the light globe or any others screws you can see,

Thanks Glassman for the advise but all screws tightened. Just wondering do all fans even the new styles make even a little noise or is it possible to get one that is completely silent?
Maybe I should just have an extra Sangria before heading to bed!

Most ceiling fans make a humming noise. If you feel the humming noise is unusual, you should check how attached the fan is to the ceiling, as the vibration of the fan can cause a humming noise.

If you want a a quiet fan you should get one with a DC motor they have them in Leroy Merlin. some AC ones are OK but as always you get what you pay for. Remote control 5 speed DC 150 euros!

You won't notice the humming after a while.

Last time I bought a fan with LED lights, they gave me an electrical resistor/ballast thing ? that I was to fit to the power cable connector inside the housing if there was a hum from the circuitry.
They said it was quite common, something to do with power supply locally.
It was from Luzette Lighting the national chain, on the service road going towards Carrefour....they may give you advice, perhaps even the gizmo.

Have 3 , all from different shops and different prices, they all make noise but it’s so that after a while you do not notice it anymore.
