CUPS

CUPS

Postby p0p » Sat Mar 19, 2022 2:08 pm

Hola!

I am new to this so please forgive me if I am jumping the gun here, But we have just bought a property in the Valencia

region & as it have never had any mains electric to the property, I am trying to sort a new connection out with Iberdrola.
They have asked for NI number & Passport (which I have) but they are asking for a CUPS number which is on the bill
amongst other things, but as it has never had a mains supply, obviously no bill to hand!
I have read it is to identify the connection to a particular location/address, which is fine but I do not have one....
Can anyone shed any light on how I acquire one & what is need for it ?

Thanks

From what I can see you need to contact the distributor rather than the supplier. The distributor for new electricity connections in the Valencian region is i-DE, confusingly also an Iberdrola brand. Iberdrola is only one of several available suppliers once you have a connection.

Contact details are here and they say they will answer the phone in English if necessary:

https://www.i-de.es/contact

Perhaps if there is a neighbour with a CUPS this will help them identify your location accurately.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

A CUPS number is only assigned by the area distributor when registering electricity or natural gas for the first time.

As the property has never had a supply, it will not have a CUPS number hence they shouldn't be asking for it.

They may not realise that you are actually looking for a complete new supply installation, they may think it's just an everyday supply problem, that's why they are asking for the CUPS number, could be one of those lost in translation moments :o

Hi Adey

I spoke with them on the phone & emailed them explaining it had never had a connection & what is required for a first time connection...
I was told on the phone & via email I would require the following for a new connection to the property:
If it is a new connection, pleasem confirm the CUPS number which appears on the certificate or you can contact the distribution company, i-DE, Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes, S.A.U, network fault hotline by e-mail to [email protected] or by the phone number (0034) 900 17 11 71 and English speaking or (0034) 915679 810 from abroad of Spain to ask for this number.
Neither of the phone numbers work! so I was wondering if this is correct information & what would I require to get the CUPS number. :-)

You need to try again on the i-de email provided. The telephone 900171171 does work, I just tried it. They must think you want a "new connection" as in for a new customer/owner rather than a "first ever connection". You are contacting the right people, it must be a misunderstanding. If you cannot do it yourself maybe try using a local gestor to get the process started.

You don't say where you are, but close to Quesada we have Iberdrola offices in Rojales, Guardamar and Torrevieja who may also be willing to help.

I think the answer is in the following phrase.

( you can contact the distribution company, i-DE, Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes, S.A.U, network fault hotline )

That is for people who are already on the network, you don't say whereabouts your property is, or if you are in Spain at the moment, but if you can go into an Iberdrola office I would do that, if you are not in Spain, then maybe use the solicitor for your house sale to get the wheels in motion.

Thanks to both of you for your reply's & guidance! The property is in Llauri, & I am in the UK & about to fly out to Australia
for a month, so not so easy... I have emailed I-DE so hopefully someone will understand what I am after (I called both numbers
from here yesterday & it said something in Spanish & cut off) I have spoke with the solicitor about this but was advised that it
would not be possible as the property is on rustic land, but I explained this to Iberdrola on the phone & via email, & was told
that was not a problem (they have an electric pole in the next plot) as you can imagine I am trying to get the ball rolling prior
to my return & before completion on the property.....

A couple of years ago my friend was in a very similar situation to you, they are on rustic land and had an electric pole about 75 metres away from their house, Iberdrola wanted €28,000 to connect their house to the pole.

Needless to say they went down the solar route, which still meant a significant outlay but nowhere near the amount Iberdrola wanted.

Well believe it or not I had the same scenario in France! pole was @ the end of the driveway (20mtr away) & I put underground ducting
in for them, while I had a digger on hire & they still wanted 35k to connect me!
Hence I am trying to get 1, Will they actually connect me & 2, How much are they going to charge me to connect the property...
As I can't do much until I have some sort of power connected, I am trying to get one of the 2 options in place soon after I complete
on the property.
Again thanks for the advice
I was hoping someone who had travelled the same path see's the post & maybe save me a lot of time & money.
