Electric upgrade.

Hi All
Any recommendations for an Electrician to upgrade our supply/ trip box, keeps Tripping out, may be a fault but having read a few posts on here it seems like a common occurrence in some homes if the amps are a little low?
we are in the Quesada area.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Firstly, what is the power rating you have? Normally 5.75Kw for a modern home but many older properties will only have 3.3Kw. The difference is quite marked.
For 5.75 your fuse will be rated 25A, for 3.3 it will be rated 15A.
If you need to upgrade the power, you need an electrician to provide a "boletin" or safety certificate to show your wiring is fit for the extra power. Iberdrola will accept this and then upgrade the amount of power you have coming in (at an increased cost, of course).
We have 5.75Kw and have had no problems with things tripping. When we had a flat with 3.3 it was a pain as it seemed to trip whenever the kettle was plugged in.
Still have to be a bit careful though, Holidaymakers next to us had aircon blasting out on full, the oven and all the hobs on whilst watching telly and then one of them put the hairdryer on. Poof! Had to get the key to the fuse boxes from the president and Steve Birkett on here talked us through how to reset it.

I would always recommend Steve Birkett, you can call him but if he's busy up a ladder he won't answer. It's best to email him and he will respond later that evening normally. He's on WhatsApp too

Thx both
Not 100% sure on rating/amps/ etc etc, hence the request for a recommendation on proper sparky.
I’ll drop the guy an email.

The power you are contracted for will be on your electric bill. The amperage you have will be on the fuse in your fuse box inside the house. The main trip fuse will have it printed but this may not be the best way to check as we are now all on smart meters which they can adjust so the best way is what it says on your bill.
If it says 25a then multiply that by the voltage which is 230V (not true as Spain uses 220V but 230V is now the European standard) So if it is 25A then that 25 x 230 = 5750 or 5.75Kw.
If it says 15A then that is the old system so you multiply it by 220 to give 3.3Kw.
If you do upgrade, do not go above 10kw as you will not get the reduced IVA on the bill and end up paying 21% instead of 5%.

This is often caused by a faulty or shorting appliance, with the water heater being the most frequent culprit. Unplug the heater and retry the trip switch. If that isn’t the culprit then switch off or unplug all of your appliances, then switch the trip switch back on. If the trip switch doesn’t trip, with all appliances off, then it will prove that one of your appliances is shorting. Turn each appliance back on in turn, then if the switch trips you will have isolated the faulty appliance. If none of this works, call an electrician.
Good luck.
Good luck.
