Electricity changes from 1/6/21
Electricity changes from 1/6/21
by LizzyW56 » Thu Jul 22, 2021 9:14 am
I have a few queries on this topic which I am hoping someone can help with. To set the scene I understand the government imposed a requirement for electricity to be provided on a time-pattern basis and that this was for ALL suppliers of electricity. This pattern is to have 3 periods for the supply and 2 period for the potencia. I am with Iberdrola.
1. Does anyone know the actual prices for the Iberdrola periods. I have had a bill but nowhere on it or nowhere on their website that I can find, does it say what the price is per unit in each period
2. There are loads of Iberdrola website selling other electricity tariffs. Are these valid alternatives or are they just out of date?
3. Will different suppliers have different prices for those same periods,so is it worth shopping around again?
Thanks as always

I have attached a photo of the cost of each of the 3 time bands. Hope this helps

Thanks for this. Those figures don´t match what is on my bill and I think that is actually for a plan which was offered prior to 1-6-21. Have you actually had a bill on the new basis? Under Energy Invoiced it refers to non-promotional and promotional periods and I have no idea how this equates to the 3 periods.Confusion abounds!!!

I spoke to Iberdrola about this subject yesterday as, like many of us were led to believe, I thought we had all been switched automatically to the new system on 1 Jun 21. I was told that I was still on the tariffs I had agreed to prior to that date, that the new tariff was only for poor (not well off) OAPs and tariffs could only be changed after we had applied to change them.

Personally, I think their response is junk! The change is a government directive and therefore it is automatically applied. So I would think you are on the new 3 level system but I do wonder whether the actual tariffs for each person is different and that is what they mean by the second comment in your phone call. I find this a bit iffy as for example if before 1-6-21 a person had a single tariff for all their electricity are they saying that the are now charging that same 1 price for all 3 time segments? This just gets worse.

I have just been on the phone for 75mins with Iberdrola and spanishmickey is correct. Unless you are listed as "poor" (in UK on the dole) the new tariffs DO NOT apply and your electric contact WILL NOT be changed.
If you feel that you want to go onto new tariff's you can request it and they will apply for it, but having looked at the rates it's not worth the change and for some cost them more.

How do they know your income and if you're poor. I went into the Iberdrola office and they checked my bill and said I would stay on the contract I'm already on the day and night tariff. That was the best plan for us apparently ?

Qnapper - where did you find the rates? That is exactly what I am looking for so I can compare for myself.

I called them - they explained everything (in English) and all the different rates etc etc. For anyone who thinks it's a better deal think again.......... looks good on the face of it but (a) who can wait until the weekends to do their washing, ((b) cooking between 6pm - 10pm is really expensive (c) Watching the clock all day long is a waste of time.
As I stated if you feel that it would be better for you to change, go to their office or on line and request it. Simples
Me I'm sticking to Day/Night tariff.
