Definitely turn the water off, we left ours on last year, went back to UK for two weeks, had a leaking pipe in the garden, water bill 900 euros!

Electric if you have a decent fridge freezer you probably should,nt turn electric off as this could shorten compresser life, make sure you have surge arresters on plugged in equipment as leccy over here spikes quite often can cause big problems about 6 € from ferreterrias. High water bills, includes your dustbin emptying you know the spanish love our money, does anybody have experience of the new electric supply co.s

we are thinking of paying 100 euro for a digital type so we can change to a cheaper tarriff, have heard it could save up to 30ish euro on each bill. i have found out that the standing charge is very high even though you are not using any electric, total rip off if you ask me, easy money for them.

Most houses now have 5.75 kw as the "potencia" or power rating. You are charged over 12 cents per kw per day so that would be around 44 euros for a 2 month period. Then there are taxes and IVA on top plus the rent of the meter and the rubbish collection so you would be paying around 60 to 70 euro per 2 months whether you turn the electricity off or not.
Regarding the water, you can get a pressure meter fitted. If the water pressure continues over a certain time (you can set it for 5, 10, 15 minutes and so on) then it automatically turns it off at the mains. So if you get a leak and it senses the water is continuing to flow, it will stop the water running in order to avoid those high bills.

I am with fenienergia (spelling?) and pay about 37E standing charge, plus 6 and 15 cents/Kwh on dual tariff ...haven't compared that with all the others lately.
I just turn off the water-heater when I'm away (never more than 10 days), and it's on a timer anyway, so only heats in low tariff hours.
High leccy bills are a fact of life in Spain, I think, unless you are using Green Energy!
