Electricity - to keep on or turn off ?
Electricity - to keep on or turn off ?

For those that don't live out here permanently do you switch off your electricity when you leave?
I have been but am considering not in future. (not all of it anyway).
Thanks in advance.

It would depend on whether you have anything in your freezer or if you have a burglar alarm. If none of these, and no security lights, then off would be ok, I would've thought.

My thoughts exactly.
Thinking of installing CCTV hence why i would need to leave it on.
Speaking of water, how do you water the garden/plants when you are away if the waters switched off
(it wasn't so sunny when i left)

We always turned the electricity off. Same with the water. I've seen a lot of damage to properties when the water has been left on. One where the toilet didn't stop filling and another where a pipe had split causing damage to their house and next door.
You can either get a nice neighbour to water the plants when you're away or pay a gardening company about 20 euro a month to do it.

I guess it depends on what equipment you have. We have to leave the electricity on so the pool pump works and the water on so the pool can be topped up and the automatic irrigation works for the plants. Having said that we have a lovely neighbour who always keeps an eye on the place and our housekeepers/keyholders pay weekly visits to check things out.
We do empty the fridge freezer and switch it off as powr cuts can cause rather nasty problems if any food left in them.

I leave electricity on.we are over quite often so I leave some food so.if we arrive late I have bread ect, also means ice and cold beers but again depends how often you are there, I.always put water off as a leak can cause a lot of damage. Plants ,we have cacti. Money plants (no money on them yet!) and a few other greens and use larva rock to hold moistur a nd its so cheap to buy some colourful plants in the market to put in nice pots over summer.
Sorry seem to have gone on and on lol

Er, you don't!
Not unless you have an automatic irrigation system installed

I switch my Electric of and my water. Does anyone know why the Bill's are high. my water is about 45 euro's and my electric is about 50 euro's and I am not there. I think this is high. Can any one say why they charge so much for both. My friend has a place in Cyprus and only pays the standing charge of 4 euro's when she is not there. They only pay for what they use.

we did leave our electricity on because of the freezer but do turn the water off. we decided to turn off the electricity after our last visit because our electricity bills were around 75 euro every 2 months. we have since had another bill duducted from our bank for around the same when we havn`t even been there, i need to see the bill to make sure it is an estimated bill. if not our meter (old wheel type) must be knakered.
we are thinking of paying 100 euro for a digital type so we can change to a cheaper tarriff, have heard it could save up to 30ish euro on each bill. i have found out that the standing charge is very high even though you are not using any electric, total rip off if you ask me, easy money for them.
