Has anyone changed their electricity supplier recently?

Has anyone changed their electricity supplier recently? I am with Iberdrola at the moment, but Adixa seems to offer a better deal, so wondered if anyone has successfully "switched" -(not necessarily to Adixa) - and how they went about it. :?:

I signed up with Iberswitch, telf: 966265089, this company emerged after the Electricity in Spain became deregularised.
They look after your electricity supplier, and choose the company with the cheapest rate and "Switch" you to the new company transparently when it becomes cheaper than your existing.
I also went on the dual metering - with a Peak rate and a Valley (cheap) rate.
Peak rate is from is 1300PM until 2300PM
Cheap rate is from 2300PM until 1300PM
These times change with the clocks changing with summer/winter time. (changes by 1 hour only)
The company I have as supplier at present is Fenienergía.
Cost of units
P1 = Peak P2 = Cheap
Peak rate 0.062012 (Precio Peaje) + 0,097059 €/kWh (Coste Energia) = 0.159071 €/kWh
Cheap rate 0.002215 (Precio Peaje) + 0,059770 = 0.061985 €kWh.

P1 for 2 months was 439kWh
P2 for 2 months was 901kWh
This totals 125 € the extras make up the rest (about 82€) All the companies have these extras.

The bills are 2 monthly, mine arrive by email.
Of course the rest of the bill is made up of the "extras", the same as all Electricity Company's,
Standing charge, Contratada depends on your Maximum supply - most are 5,750kW
Hire of meter,
Environmental tax
IVA at 21%

Our bill is currently just over €100 a month. I have the pool pump running for 5 hours at night and we attempt to use the washing machine and dishwasher in the mornings. As this bill covered from February the air-conditioning was also heating occasionally.
I have had approx' 5 different companies since being with them. No problem.
There is a small charge by Iberswitch for this service approx €4 a month.

Thanks for the info clivespana. Looks like a brilliant unit cost. Could you say how many kilowatt hours (kWh) this relates to? And are the "extras" included? Thanks a lot

I am baffled as to why you think Iberswitch are cheaper!

My current unit rates with Iberdrola on my last bill 23 April 2015 was

Peak .140218 and offpeak .0586 cents per KWH plus tax, standing charge and IVA.

Why pay Iberswitch 46euros a year to pay more for your unit charge?

You could use another 819 off peak units or 342 peak units in a year by not paying Iberswitch the 46 euros and save nearly 2 cents a unit peak and .003cents off peak by using Iberdrola.

Iberdrolas rates vary daily and the average cost is taken over the 2 month billing cycle. Therefore rates can change on each bill.

If a company is offering a unit price fixed for the year they are going to charge slighty more to cover increases in production throughout the year.

When Spain has the new Smart Meters functioning, electricity will be costed as its used. Rates will vary constantly, depending on production costs.

Dont assume Iberswitch are doing you the best deal, they want your 46 Euros a year!

Your rates seem extremely attractive and wildly out of sync´ with what the Iberdrola website offers, the website rates are as below:-

Get the most out of our capped prices, until the 30th June 2015
, except for regulated concepts

ECONOMIC CONDITIONS OF THE HOME DAY AND NIGHT PLAN
Offer valid until 30th June 2015.

Discount of 10% on the consumption for electricity, for the first twelve (12) months of the contract period.
Contracts with IBERDROLA CLIENTES, S.A.U. for Low-Voltage electricity supply points with contracted power of up to 10 kW.
Offer valid for consumers with up to three supply points. Offer not applicable to Public Administrations and Official Bodies.
CONTRACTED POWER UP TO 10 KW WITH TIME-OF-DAY RATES

PERIOD ..........................................................PEAK.....................VALLEY
POWER CHARGE (€/kW /YEAR) ......................45.367548 ...............45.367548
ENERGY CHARGE (€/kWh).............................0.183770 ..................0.097253

Get the most out of our capped prices, until the 30th June 2018, except for regulated concepts

CONTRACTED POWER UP TO 10 KW
CONTRATED POWER (kW).....POWER CHARGE (€/kW /YEAR).......... ENERGY CHARGE (€/kWh)
UP TO 10 KW ..........................................45.367548.......................0.16007

As you see from the examples above Iberdrola try to sign you up for a long time, by capping their prices, offering 10% discount in first year, the last offer lasts until 2018, they also do 12 months at a fixed rate. Who can take a guess what the price of electricity will be in 2018, Iberdrola think 0.16007 €/kWh will be close, lets wait and see! Its a huge difference (catch up) from your existing rate.

This blog was primarily about SWITCHING as the person who initiated it wanted to change from Iberdrola.

Agree, on both points. Iberdrola do not publish this rate now, they used to and it was called the TUR rate, its now called reference or regulated rates and you will see that mentioned in your post. This rate was set by Spanish Goverment.

As the unit rate now changes marginally by time, depending on production costs, demand etc Iberdrola find it impossible to publish a unit rate. Therefore when the Smart meters come in force they will bill virtually by the second. As its impossible in reality to calculate at the moment Iberdrola charge the average cost of a unit over the 2 month billing period.

The rates Iberdrola publish on the website have extra margin built in for discounts, production costs etc and as you say are much higher. They are fixed so you will always know your cost.

These are the rates Iberswitch will compare as they are comparing to published rates.

The old TUR rate has always been the cheapest and could not be beaten as it was Government regulated.

Iberdrola can try to put you off going on this rate as their commission run sub offices will receive less commission.

As you say this blog was primarily about changing supplier from Iberdrola. My point is why change when you can have these rates and why pay Iberswitch.

The tab economic conditions gives the explanation where once the prices were.
