reduce electricity costs

We have halved, yes halved our electricity bill by changing the meter to a dual rate and changing supplier to an internet one, you have to able to write in spanish, but well worth it, all those clases have paid off, we are saving 600€ a year, we did try Iberswitch but contrary to what they claim, no savings were made.

I haven't heard anything good about Iberswitch - everyone that I know who has been on it has switched back again!
These dual meters - I take it they are off-peak and you have to do things like washing etc late at night or early in the morning?

the dual meters give you 14 hours a day of half price electricity, the remaining 10 hours are charged at slightly more. The cut off is lunch time so things like washing, drying an pool filtering can be done easily in off peak hours, the items that have to be o. All the time like fridges etc.. Average out considerably cheaper, as do aircons if you use them through the night in bedrooms.

Seems the OP has left us!
Yes, I thought that, as they haven't answered! What's OP though? - Sorry if it's obvious but I have just woken up.
Jan.

OP = original poster. I had to ask about that on another forum some time ago.
If you look at ahloughlin's details there aren't any, no link from his name. You must have deleted him, Jan??
Thanks Guapa - It's true, we learn something every day!
As for the OP, yes I remember now.

We are on a dual tarriff with Iberdrola - 22.00 - 12.00 lunch we save 46% of the normal tarriff - and the remaining hours we pay 35% extra for the electricity used.
We have the emersion heater on a timer which goes at at lunch and I do laundry etc in the morning - we have made a saving - I dont think we have halved our bill but maybe a 3rd, even taking into account the 20 Euros we paid for the switch over which took about 3 weeks to organise.
I thnk the majority of the savings will be made in the summer months as other posters have said air con can be run occasionally through the night - however we will have to see how the winter goes as obviously we will want a heater on in the evenings when the tarriff is at its most expensive - also I think the times change with the daylight saving so cheap power will not then commence until 11pm.

I think you will find its 11 pm at night until 1 pm in the afternoon in summer and obviously 10 pm until midday in the winter. Mike

We've been with Iberswitch for ages and using the off-peak electric for the last 6 months. Have had no problems with them and have seen a huge saving on the bills
