Smart meter bills

Smart meter bills

Postby Lynnjon » Thu Jan 18, 2018 11:52 pm

Hi all, ok so having read all the different posts re smart meter bills can anyone help me. We are on a 5.5 kW potencia and have had a smart meter installed last year. The first bill we got in October had a reading of 97 kWh used plus usage from old meter so total bill 106 euros. Next bill in December had previous reading of 97 kWh but no current reading (I checked it myself said 536 kWh) had a bill for 67.89 euros ( very low) just checked my bank account Iberdrola taken 43 euros today. I am concerned because these bills seem very low for winter consumption. We use 2 X electric oil radiators and air con (heat) sometimes. My current reading on smart meter is 900, surely the reading should show on my bill, does anyone else know. We have a 2 bed small villa bungalow, many thanks, only been here a year so still getting used to this system.

Hi Lynnjon,
I have had a similar issue, mine has been going on since last August & has only just been resolved. I have a feeling the smart meter wasn't "talking" to the central computer & therefore no usage was registered. When I checked the meter, even when electrical items were in use, lights, fridge, heating etc the meter had a red light on which indicates the power to the house is off at the breaker inside. When your electric is on, you should have a green light illuminated on the meter.
As I have been walking around our URB I have noticed a fair number of properties with seemingly the same issue.
I am not with Iberdrola, I am with Iberswitch who search around the various companies to get the best deal(allegedly) so I spoke to them about this, they informed Iberdrola (who own the equipment) & after chasing them up for several months I now have the green light on my meter & am the proud owner of a large electric bill!!!!
I must add that although the meter wasn't talking to the central computer, it was still registering units used on the display.
With all this in mind, I can only suggest you contact & keep chasing Iberdrola until you get a result.
A bit long winded but I hope this helps.
Regards,
Dave.

Thankyou for that elchedave, yes we have a red light on our meter, we will inform Iberdrola next week and see what happens, yes I am worried about getting a big bill when it's eventually sorted !

Lynnjon,
My meter occasionally went to green whilst I was having the issue & as I said earlier, there are others on our URB whose meters seem to be doing the same, perhaps your neighbour's meter is the same.
I would definitely contact your supplier soonest, as you said, you don't want a bill like mine to arrive several months down the line!!!!
Regards,
Dave.
