Smart Meters & Billing
Smart Meters & Billing
by ozzysteeve » Thu Aug 31, 2017 12:49 pm
Hi all, I've noticed lately thru my bank statements that i have been getting billed monthly by Iberdrola. I contacted them this morning by email to be told that smart meters have been fitted and bills are now monthly. Has anyone any knowledge of this.
They also suggested i could set up a monthly plan but seeing as i dont live out fulltime and only visit a few times a year just trying to work out a sensible price this could be set at.
Im on 4.6kw. for a 2 bed apartment. No air con.
I tried going online to see my account, but its such a hit and miss episode with the site recognising your password ive just given up.
Any info or feedback always appreciated.
Regards

Yes, smart meters are billed monthly. It can take a bit of time for them to set this up.
The monthly payment would be based on your average usage and in October (I think) they either refund the overpayment or base your next year's monthly payment on what you have actually used.
It's good in one way as you will know how much to budget for each month but I wouldn't think it would be good for holiday home owners. They could charge based on one month you are here and, although you'd get a big rebate in October, you would end up paying a lot for the other months.

Everything ^^ he said. However I note you are on a 4.6kw tariff. Tad high this for a lock and leave. Will be costing you more in standard charges
I'm a 3 bedroom semi with 2 AC units on 3.45kw my bills when property is empty are around 21€.

If you download the Iberdrola clients app, once set up will log you in each time. Also download the Iberdrola distribution app and this connects directly to your smart meter giving real time consumption and daily weekly and monthly usage in charts and graphs as well as hourly usage in Excel format. Also lets you reset the meter should you exceed your KW demand.

Hi, thats interesting as i was originally on a 5.5 kw tariff and had it reduced to 4.6 to reduce the standard charges. I was only worried about the obviously electricity tripping when hair-dryers(not mine thou, he he) and music etc is on at the same time. Something i may need to reconsider. Thanks Mcmuk.

Hi Marcliff,
I'm still getting my head around this smart meter as they seem to be charging for usage which in my case is around 3 euros a month but most of the charge is in taxes and standing charge. Is this all still lumped together as one charge. I wont know until i receive a bill which im still waiting on.

Hi Milor,
I'll definitely look into this as trying to get online is just a headache. You put your username and password in and its a no go.
You reset it and save the details, 1 or 2 months later you try again and bang no luck again.
Thanks for this info.

Hi all, ok so having read all the different posts re smart meter bills can anyone help me. We are on a 5.5 kW potential and have had a smart meter installed last year. The first bill we got in October had a reading of 97 kWh used plus usage from old meter so total bill 106 euros. Next bill in December had previous reading of 97 kWh but no current reading (I checked it myself said 536 kWh) had a bill for 67.89 euros ( very low) just checked my bank account Iberdrola taken 43 euros today. I am concerned because these bills seem very low for winter consumption. We use 2 X electric oil radiators and air con (heat) sometimes. My current reading on smart meter is 900, surely the reading should show on my bill, does anyone else know, many thanks, only been here a year so still getting used to this system.
