To change electricity supplier.
To change electricity supplier.
by Gerry » Fri Oct 20, 2017 12:56 pm
My electricity supplier has recently fitted new 'boxes'. Unfortunately we now have a greatly reduced amount of electricity and not sufficient for our needs as it is only 6.5 kw. There must also be many others with the same problem. I'm told it's an expensive process to do what is necessary to increase the power supply. The alternative is to change the supplier.
Does anyone have any advice or experience of this problem.
Thank You.

Iberdrola changed our meter and set our usage at a figure lower than our needs. Changing suppliers will make no difference, your meter settings dictate your supply. Your only option is to get a certificate from a qualified electrician, take this to your electricity supplies office and pay them to increase the supply.

6.5kw tariff is exceptionally high. Unless you have a 6 br villa with 5 people living in it, or are running a commercial premises that tariff is unnecessary
There were 3 of us in a 3 bedroom house with aircon running thru the summer. 3.5kw tariff was more than enough

Agreed.
From an earlier post...
" If it's any help to you, we are on a 5.5kw tariff and are on a smart meter. We can run 3 air con units, the washing machine, a dishwasher, fridge/freezer and the pool pump at the same time, and all is OK. Can't say I've tried the oven or kettle at the same time as well, so that might trip it, but I'd reckon 5.5kw would be fine for most people!"

As already stated, changing supplier won’t help.
We are with Iberswitch, but the meter is still provided by Iberdrola and the power is still distributed by Iberdrola. You also still have to pay Iberdrola a power distribution fee every year.
6.5Kw is an extremely high Potentia and if your meter is still tripping then you may have an appliance that’s faulty. Have you tried unplugging or switching off various appliances and seeing what happens?
Pete.

6.5kw and its still tripping - that has to be a fault and you need an electrician !! We have a large villa with aircon in numerous rooms, pool heater, elec oven etc and we had issues with new meter but we were on 3.3 potencia - weve just upgraded to 5.75kw which were told will do us.
