Very useful thank you. We are on a fixed tariff which I've calculated works out at around 30% more overall. So, does anyone have any experience of moving from a fixed to a peak/off-peak tariff with Iberdrola? Thanks. I did visit Iberdrola a couple of weeks back to query my bill but there was no suggestion of moving from the fixed tariff.

The day/night tariff will disappear when all the smart meters are fitted (you will be charged the rate at the time you use the power).
Until then you simply go in to the Iberdrola shop and ask them to change to day/night. I must admit, it hasn't changed our bills by very much (maybe a euro or two) as most of usage (TV, Cooker etc) is on daytime tariff. Just putting the water heater and washing machine/dishwasher on during early mornings hasn't particularly reduced the bills by that much.

Hi,
Been reading this (well explained) post but i am still a bit unsure of my bills.
I am wondering why i get bi-monthly bills with zero consumption usage, when we are not in the apartment, but charges of 40-50 Euro for something called "contracted power".
We are on a 5.75kw contract and probably in the apartment 4-5 times a year.

Explained on the previous page. There are two charges, one for the amount of power contracted for and one for the electricity used.
You are on 5.75kw and pay 0.12 cents (or thereabouts) per kw so 5.75 x 0.12 = 69 cents a day. Add your IVA and meter rental and green taxes and so on and it comes to about 90 cents a day. If 60 days then 60 x 0.9 = about 54 euro per two months.
2 months can be anything from 55 to 65 days depending on when they read it.
If you actually use it then the cost of electricity is added to that plus IVA (at 21%).

Ok, thanks for that, It just seems nuts to me to get electricity bills when no electric has been used. If, for any reason, we were not there at all this year with no usage we would still have an annual bill for around 300 Euro :?
As its a holiday home is there another tariff that would be better suited? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Its quite simple - half of the bill is tax & BS charges - like renting a meter & service charges - you'd think after living in the same property for 12 years that 'renting' a meter is ridiculous - probably paid for it 20 times over and more to the point should not evening be paying for it in the first place. Legalised theft and the government in cahoots rubbing their hands together on all that bogus tax collected that there is no way around.

Roll on when solar panels are more than 18% efficient & battery's come down in price...my last bill 330 euros (2 months) for 2 people in a house...it's not a mansion either...and I have a wood burner to boot.

I have just read Espaniabums breakdown of the night / day Iberdrola bill which is very clear and thank you. We have just had the night / day meter installed and I am trying to understand it. I expected to see a switchover to define the tariffs but it just shows different numbers flash in on & off. I have worked out one is the date another is the time but it jumps from 00000 kWh to 00002 kWh and the cycle repeats. I would like to be able to monitor use on day and night to make sure I am getting the best. Also to check against bills when they come in. Can anyone help?
