Water Bills

Water Bills

Postby Jan » Fri Jan 18, 2013 4:16 pm

Hi,

I have just signed up on-line for Aquagest water bills and was looking through our old paper bills and noticed that we have paid for water (Consumo) in the months when we are not in Spain and the house is unoccupied. Admittedly it is only around 6 to 8 euros for two months but does anyone else have this? I am assuming that the bills are now every two months as it's not easy to tell on the paper bills and I know they changed from two to one and then back to two monthly in the last year or so.

We always turn the water off in the house while we are not there but the charges that I'm querying are for consumption, which seems odd:

Agua consumo 6.66 euros
Alcantarillado consumo (Sewage) 1.25 euros
Canon Saneamiento consumo (Sanitation) 2.38 euros

Obviously this is extra to the service charges for water, sewage & Sanitation, which we expect to pay. The full bill (direct debit) for the last two months, while the house has been unoccupied, was 56.00 euros.

Can anyone tell me if this bill amount seems reasonable or not and if they know why we are being charged for a small amount of consumption while we are not using any?

Thanks for any help.

Jan.

They are 3 monthly Jan. Although yours appears higher than ours and we have a watering system running. You have to remember you pay Basuras and standing charges too.

Thanks Glyn, I didn't realise they were 3 monthly - that's better. It must be the electric that's 2 monthly. I've always thought ours seemed a bit high though, all the time, but especially when we're not there and can't think why as we don't have auto-watering or even own a hose-pipe to water the few 'drought loving' plants in the garden.
The direct debit gets taken and that's always the only way to see what the payment is for us, until we get to Spain, and then there's often a few utility bills in our post box which I bring home but by then I often forget to check the breakdown of the bills. Now I've signed us up for on-line access I can hopefully keep an eye on it better.
Thanks again.

Water bills are mainly standing charges, sewerage, tax and so on. Ou quarterly bills were always around the 56 euro mark per quarter despite not being here. Now we are here permanently, they have only gone up a few euros despite having visitors, automatic watering system etc. Our summer bill this year was 63 euros which is only 7 more than a quarter last year when we weren't here and the water was switched off.

Hi Marcliff,

That's interesting! I should be able to check our bills more often now they are going to be on-line and see how they compare.

Thanks,

Jan.

Hi when we leave, we always read the numbers on the meter, as we once had a leak, that we were unaware of,and came back to a huge bill,so over night we took the numbers, and first thing in the morning, took them again, before anyone used the water, and knew there was water disapearing,it was a slow leak, and dried up very quickly,so wasnt noticed,it is always worth taking note of all the numbers for elec, too. pete

That's a good idea! Will keep a check on the bills and try that when we are next out there.

Thanks.
