When you overload your electricity and it cuts out...
When you overload your electricity and it cuts out...

We have been known to overload our electricity box with too many gadgets on at once since we only have a 3kw power supply. Normally when this happens, the fuse 'flicks' over in our electric box in the house and it is simple just to flick the switch back again.
Last week, our electric cut out but the fuses were all fine so we assumed it was a general power cut. We went out but it still wasn't on after 4 hours. We phoned our electricity supplier, Iberdrola, and without us realising, we have been paying 1.98 euros a month for 'Servicio Urgencias Electras' which is basically cover if you have a problem with your electricity. Iberdrola were fantastic, said someone would be here within 3 hours but within 5 minutes the engineer phoned to say he would be here in an hour.
It turned out to be a very quick and easy fix thankfully. Iberdrola had replaced our external electric meter and that had a tripswitch on it. You just had to 'push the button'
The moral of my story, if your electricity cuts out and your fuses are fine, check you don't have a new external meter with the trip switch!
On the plus side, we had a lovely lunch at Don Carlos since we had no cooking facilities

PS to change to a higher power supply, you need to get a certificate from a qualified electrician to say your house is up to it.

You must now have the new smart meter as they have the button on the meter. Apparently Iberdrola omit to tell people about this button and if you call them out they charge 80 euros to reset it. !!!
You were lucky you had the insurance and they didn't charge you.
