I can understand the health benefits of the non meat products, but what has always baffled me is that if you don't want to eat meat, then why do you want your veggie replacements to look like meat???? :?

Tom 1957 - I can understand your curiosity and Scipio has summed it up beautifully (thank you). I'd been a vegetarian for many years before I met my husband who's a full-on carnivore and so meat substitutes are a good compromise for us and means we don't cook two sets of meals all the time. You can make wonderful tasty meals with Quorn - you should give it a go!

I shall have to, out of curiosity. I'm assuming it doesn't taste like meat, or have the texture(s) so there's only one way to find out.

I'm a meat eater but I have a strange quirk. Put a lump of meat in front of me and I can't help but see it for what it is, a lump of dead animal. I prefer my meat to not look like meat (burgers, pies etc).

It's what the manufacturers think we want.
We don't really have a choice.

Also. If you came to my house for a spaghetti bolognaise and I served up a quorn version that didn't look like the meat version you would probably not try it.
Same goes for barbecues.
Veggie stuff always seems to go first at parties as well.

Just curious on the veggie stance , I read that 95% of soya is GM,d ,what is Qourn made out of?,and they are cutting down vast tracts of rainforest clearing the land to go grow soya and oil seed rape,i think the veggie stuff goes first at partys as you say as people who are meat eaters like to try non meat products , and egg mayo is that for veggies?i thought eggs were foetus's of chicks , its nice to have a veggie meal now and then ,but is the human being not a carnivore, I,m sure some one will put me right, one thing I,ve noticed though is that people who don't eat meat ,seem to live longer, and there again I knew a guy who had bacon and eggs every morning and a swig of cod liver oil out of the bottle every day smoked a pipe ,drank moderately and was fit as a fiddle until he died at 90.

Large swathes of rainforests are being destroyed to create fields to feed the animals that are farmed for food.
Quorn is mycoprotein.Mushroom based.
Vegans don't eat eggs or cheese.Vegetarians may do.
My guidelines are not to eat anything that has ever had pulse or eyes .

I am not vegetarian but I don't like eating much meat although I do eat and cook it in moderation.
However I do use Quorn mince in all bolognese and Lasagne. When cooked with a little olive oil, garlic, onions, grated carrot, herbs, tomatoes (or jar of bolognese sauce) tomato puree and a sprinkling of veggie gravy granules. I would defy anyone to not like it. In fact I started using Quorn when I noticed that even the best beef mince I used to use always seemed to have some gristle in it. I have also used chicken and turkey mince but still prefer Quorn mince.

I often serve it up to friends and family and they always enjoy it, particularly in Lasagne. My husband didn't even notice when I first started to use it.
It's lower in fat and healthier.
I have tried the Quorn burgers when we have had a veggie friend for BBQs but they do need nurturing when cooking as they dry out quickly.

Anyway Quorn mince is the best IMO and is so versatile.
