HI All

Anyone recommend somewhere we could hire a portable gas heater ?

Do they work out cheaper than electric ?

Any problems with them (safety wise) ?

The problem with portable gas heaters is that when the gas burns it releases a lot of moisture into the atmosphere. As there’s no flue to the outside all this moisture (and the nasty products of combustion) end-up inside the property.
You’ll find that you’re nice and warm near the heater, but that everywhere else in the property feels cold and damp because of the moisture that’s been released.
To use a portable heater safely it needs to be well ventilated, which really means having a door or window open - which defeats the object of what you’re doing. You should also have a carbon monoxide monitor to warn if the ventilation is inadequate and you’re being poisoned.

I assume that you’re renting as you’re looking to hire a heater?
Does the property have air conditioning? If so, check to see if it’s an inverter aircon as these are the most efficient way to heat a property.

Otherwise, I’d look at hiring am electric heater - just be careful you don’t draw too much power and trip the electrics.

I agree with Peter a Carbon Monoxide detector is a MUST! Without ours we would not be here today, we had a very scary experience last year here in spain.

Thank goodness for that. Finally we can put to bed the "most efficient way to heat a property" question!

Sometimes I wonder just how many times it has to be said in order to "get through"!!!

We got rid of our gas heater last week. the fumes were so strong it affected my chest as I am asthmatic, also the condensation was terrible.
