If someone is truly wanting work you cannot beat going in person to various bars and asking.
It shows you are prepared to get up and get out, to actually "work" at finding work... If there is no work at the time, leave your name and telephone number, show you are keen to work...
I have employed many many people in my time... many were "walk ins".
