Why would they do that if it wasn’t a requirement?

Probably because the bar owners, or the person running the quiz, doesn't know if it's a requirement or not, and are playing it safe. Others are going for the less safe, but better for business, option. The police probably have no idea either, and are using their discretion, or not, as the case may be. I think that's the whole point of this thread.

Well, if as you assume, bar owners don’t know and the police don’t know and, I doubt anyone on here knows, then, there is no point to this thread.

If a quiz is running somewhere go and, if it ain’t, go somewhere else. It’s quite simple really!

The whole point of the thread is to see if anybody does know however it’s obvious nobody does
Going to somewhere where there is a quiz is not that straightforward. I turned up at one last night only to be told it had been cancelled
But hey ho, just thought I’d ask
I thought I’d get a few answers like yours, not unexpected

I’ve been told that their opinion differs from town to town, ie the police in benijofar think differently to the police in Rojales
The ayuntamiento’s don’t appear to know how to read the rules either
One bar was told By the local police that if they hold a quiz then the bar owner, the staff and all the patrons would be fined
A ridiculous idea
Most bar owners tell me they rely on advice from their accountants but they’re surely just interpreting the regulations as they see them
I was simply hoping maybe Derek Monk (Rojales councilor) might browse the forum and provide an opinion
Not holding out any great hopes though as he hasn’t been brilliant at responding to questions before
