Hi I have an appointment at Elche to obtain my NIE number but im a little concerned that they may not speak English at all and I am learning but speak hardly any spanish yet. Has anybody recently obtain an NIE and did they have any issues? Is it worth paying for a translator to accompany me ? Any advice would be appreciated thank u

We were taken there by a 'fixer', but the lady behind the desk who dealt with us spoke good English. To be honest, there not much to say unless you've made a mistake with the paperwork.

I would suggest an interpreter and one who knows the system.

Thank u everyone . Our solicitor has filled the NIE form in for us we just need to present it at the appointment I think lol

I got my NIE at Elche. Try to get the woman to serve you if possible, not the man who strolls around looking like he owns the place - he upsets everyone. I didn't know anyone there spoke English? Be patient is my advice.

Bring 2 copies of your passport, and also a stamped receipt from the bank that you paid the fee. Then just present to the people at the office and they will do the rest. They are very helpful although they don't speak English. Worked fine for me and my partner and we did not speak any Spanish at all.

Be prepared like this lady ....posted this before but good for a laugh ...been there and done it .

We did all ourselves and even only having a small amount of Spanish was very easy and very cheap compared to using some of these service companies who charge a large amount.

cant find the link to make appointment at ELCHE police station, been 4 times now turned away last ime as we did,nt make an appointment .
