repayment of penalty charge

i had some interest on non residence tax to pay so i went to the tax office in elche to determine how to pay. tone of the staff told me i had a penalty and had to pay 66 euros now. i paid this but last week i got a letter from the tax office saying that i was due a refund of 66.24 euros.i took this to my bank but as there was no swift code on the paper they said i was due a cheque.

the interest was calculated from my date of payment to 25th April. This is over weeks ago and i have not received it. now i am back in England. does anyone know if i am supposed to do something ( sign a form or whatever) or do i just have to wait. it would seem sensible to me if they repaid the money to the account it came out of but i guess that is too simple for them

Hi,
We have blotted out your full address, full name and other personal details, which are a bit risky on a public forum. Hope you don't mind but it is much safer not to have these details shown.

Hello I posted this when I was in Spain in May. I am surprised that no one has replied as surely someone has had similar paperwork over the years. in the last 6 months there has been no further correspondence. can someone said some light on this ?

If you use someone to do your tax return it would be better to ask them. I get the impression that you did your own,
You could ask a tax advisor but that might wipe out your refund. I think that you would have to go back to the tax office on your return to Spain.

When you do a tax return your Spanish bank details should be included so that when the tax is due, it is taken from your account.
Until a couple of years ago you would take your completed tax return form to your bank and they would deduct the first amount (if you had elected to make two payments) and the second payment due 5th Nov. would be deducted automatically. They have now changed it so that both payments are deducted automatically, the first one due end of June. If you have a credit they should send it to your bank account.
There is a tax office in Orihuela but you may have the same problem with language.

Right so there wasn't a bank account on the notification I got. so I have to go to Elche/ Orihuela and they will issue me with a cheque

Why not save yourself the fuel costs, time and effort, and simply leave the credit on your account?

Pete.

The Spanish do not use cheques so I would not go simply to receive one. They tend to use bank transfers.
