Hi,

I have a N.I.E certificate which has a date on it which has expired. I need a new/updated one as i am finding it difficult to perform certain tasks without it.

Who is the cheapest company that can arrange this for me, and get it fast, preferably without another use by date on it.

Thanks

My NIE was issued during the period when they were putting three month expiry dates on them, but it’s never been a problem for me. Ive used it to buy a car recently and it wasn’t an issue.

I think you need to go through virtually the same process as when you got your NIE in the first place, you just get a certificate with the same number but no expiry date. I think the waiting times for new NIEs is quite long at the moment.

Pete.

I bought a car with an NIE certificate that had expired. The dealer just put a piece of blank paper over the bit that detailed the expiry date and photocopied it. Job done and no questions asked.

Tempted to get the tipex out :D but mine has a 3 month valid for notice and a expiry date written in words.

It's crazy the lack of congruency in the system here.

They brought the 3 months expiry date in so that people could make their status formal. You were given 3 months to either take out residency if you were staying or getting a non-resident certificate if you weren't staying.
The NIE certificate could then be consigned to the bottom drawer forever as it was no longer necessary. Both the residency and non-residency certificate had your NIE number on it and the issue date.
They changed it back to the non-expiry for the certificate because people simply didn't bother getting one or the other certificates (whether because it was too much hassle/paperwork or it wasn't advertised enough or nobody knew about it or what but they reverted back).
Of course, if people had formalised their situation in Spain it would have saved all this renewal business.

Just to say that we replaced our old NIE certificates last year. We got them in 1997 - they were the yellowish had written ones.

Our new Fiscal rep advised us to get them replaced before we purchased another car.

The number remained the same on the new doc.

Many people on various forums (inc on here) said it was unnecessary to do this, because an NIE doesn't expire.

But we did it.

Anyone know about CIF numbers, are they granted automatically or does the company have to comply with set conditions,& how long does it take?My buyers have their NIE but want to add their company,I assume, for tax purposes.
