I need to declare my rental income to hmrc on a property in England. Does anyone have any recommendations for an accountant that can help me with this ?
Hello,
This is so easy to do yourself - I would say that, my wife does ours! ;o) Seriously, it's pretty straightfoward, you have to:
- apply to HMRC to become a Non-resident Landlord using form NRL1 (this means no tax will be deducted at source; instead you declare your earnings via an annual Self-Assessment tax return),
- register with HMRC for Self-Assessment and you'll be sent a 10-digit UTR (Unique Tax Reference),
- submit your annual tax return - you can prepare everything online at HMRC, right up to the point where their system calculates the tax due, but at that point you can't submit the tax return online, you have to print it off and post it to HMRC.
There are loads of useful guides on HMRC's website - these are the ones relating to the processes I've described above:

Good luck!
