Hi folks been resident here for a few years i dont know how but i seem to have missed a year to pay the tax here which the tax office here have picked up on,My soliciter has now filled in the paoerwork required to declare but tells me i also need to claim back some tax i paid in the UK.as the tax year is different here to the uk how do i submit the correct amount also what do i have to send to the HMRC to prove i have paid the tax here..

You need to fill in a double taxation form and send it to Newcastle. They will liase with the Spanish Tax office so that you only pay tax in Spain, and will send you a rebate of tax paid in England.

That would be the procedure for a relatively new arriver with first Spanish tax return, not the OP's situation.

Once HMRC have acknowledged you as being in the Spanish system then without a notification of a change in circumstances and a move either back to UK or another country they would not spuriously withhold tax in one odd year so I'll take a guess that it was the first tax year in Spain which was not declared and that the UK tax in question will be for Jan-April in that year.
