If you own a house then you'll already have an NIE number, which is all you need to buy/register a vehicle.

If you've held a full UK car licence for at least 3 years then I'm pretty sure you can ride a scooter of upto 125cc in Spain without passing any other tests (although you can't ride anything bigger than a 50cc moped in the UK).

I'm not sure if you'll manage to get insurance that covers you for just 3-4 months, and you will want cover for theft for 12 months anyway.

You'll need to have it ITV'd once every year or two years, depending on its age, which will be inconvenient if you're not in Spain when it becomes due. Unlike the UK, you don't get the option to MOT one month early and still preserve the expiry date. I guess you may be able to get someone to take it for the ITV for you, or have it tested early while you're in the country.
The same goes for paying the Suma, but it's usually easier to get someone else to do this for you.
