There is no laid down amount on the Spanish gov site but it says you should have sufficient funds which should be equivalent to the pension paid in Spain which is about €580 per month. However, when I went with some neighbours they simply asked if they had a regular income. Now, the average pension in Spain actually works out at just over €900 a month but that takes into account contributory pensions. The lower amount is what a Spaniard receives by simply paying social security.
On the health side, you need to show medical insurance either provided by medical insurance recognised in Spain or state provided (state provided is only available for those under 18, those registered disabled or those over retirement age in their own country).

Hi
Your posts are very helpful, l am new on here and looking to retire to Spain next year so trying to get as much info as possible before we make the move. Could you tell me if my partner would be eligible for residency as she would have no income coming in, but £40000 in join account with me plus I would have £600 a month private pension and £400 from rent of property , I am 59 a she is 57 . We would also be buying a property in quesada. Any help or information would be much appreciated.

Yes. I went with some neighbours to Elche a little while back and they simply asked if they had a regular income. They had bank statements and so on but weren't even asked for them. However, they were asked for proof of medical insurance and they were both about the same age as you.
Just one thing. You say you are planning on retiring here next year. Do you already own a property here? If not, and I would not normally say anything to put people coming over here as we think we made absolutely the right decision by moving over, but would it not be better to wait until we know what is happening with Brexit?
(Of course, you could be Irish or other EU but I'm assuming you're British as you mentioned your income in pounds).
None of us knows what is going to happen in just two years time. The EU has already fined (or threatened to fine) Spain over the different treatment they gave to residents and non-residents with regard to taxes and inheritance rules. They have been forced to treat citizens from all EU countries the same but it's not long until we won't be in the EU.

Marcliff can you do the residencia all in one day if you go to Elche? , got to change our residencia from Murcia to up here, and just want it done as quick as possible, we want our paperwork in order before Art 51.

You have to make an appointment which you can do online at this site
Elche Appointments
It is done straight away and they issue you the green card there and then.

Thanks, do they speak any English? We've always done our residencia ourselves and managed it but useful to know.

No, they don't (or won't) speak English so you do need an interpreter.
I've looked elsewhere and the general opinion is that you do not need to renew the residence card on change of address as it is a national document and not a municipal one. However, as the address is on the card I should think it would be the best thing to do but your residencia won't be cancelled in the meantime.

Thanks again Marcliff. As our residencia was issued in Murcia and not up here I think we have to change it, you think if you had all your docs they could just change it over, but no one seems to share info. Medical cards had to be sorted at the INNS in Torrevieja and now having to gather all the info again for residencia. Laughable have to get another S1 from the UK even though we have SIP cards!
