does anyone know if you previously had residencia but have been out of Spain for a few years will this still be valid? I have read on the government website that you do not now have to renew your residencia as previously you did. Thanks.

If you have an NIE number it will still be valid unless you cancelled it yourself

If you have changed address then you will need to reapply for the residency certificate. Same as if your status changes if you get married/divorced. If you did not "baja" yourself from the register of EU foreigners when you left then you will still be on the register. You must ensure that the details are up to date, though.
Only permanent residency expires if you have been out of the country for more than 2 years.

Thank you for your replies. We still have the same address in Spain, so should still be on the register. We will check this out on our return.
