Well we waited about six weeks to get an appointment for our residency. Thought we had everything we needed and were using be sure services to do the translation and paperwork. Malcolm picked us up nice and early this morning and drove us to Elche police station and we were knocked back because my pension isn’t paid into my Spanish account. New rule apparently. Just off the phone to dwp to change being paid into our Spanish bank. Need to see at least two payments being paid in before we can apply again.

I am sorry but as far as i am aware your monthly income has to paid in to your Spanish as this is where you are going to live not the UK you are lucky they only want two months but the person helping you should have informed you.

There is no requirement to have your pension paid into a Spanish bank account That has been added by an over zealous official and is not legal .

The official was a police man. There were 3 of us, myself, my husband and a 90 year old woman. We all had the right paperwork except our pension was paid to our uk account and none of us got it.

Interested to know if this is in fact a new rule as many people will be looking for residential before brexit kicks in

I feel for you. There used to be a lovely helpful woman at Elche Extranjeros section but sadly she’s now retired. I always tried to get her and not the tall, policeman swaggering around like he owns the place always knocking back bewildered applicants. Keep strong.

We were granted residency last week. We used sunflower in benijofar as our agent and were well informed but were also told that the individual that reviews your case can grant or reject as he/she deems fit. Rules seem to vary from office to office, and are applied or ignored ad hoc, we went to orihuela and were lucky but it seems it is the luck of the draw. We were given a comprehensive list which included having €700 income to a spanish account per person per month as well as €11,000 balance in the account.

We went to Orihuela also they were brilliant we had forgotten hubby's pension paper he just told us to go and get it then go back to him straight after he even joked with hubby that if he didn't stop drinking tea instead of coffee then no residency!!

This seems to be well over the top, are you sure that this was for resident status for an EU citizen as is seems more akin to the requirements for a non EU citizen.
