Why are many residents changing their residency

Why are many residents changing their residency to the new T.I.E card already? I thought they are still legal until maybe next June 2021 at least. One rumour was the price could go up and Spain could change things before then, so don't wait. A residency green card has no expiry date but could be swapped to 5 years if you haven't had it for 5 years or 10 years maybe, if you have had one for at least eight years.

The rumour about the price going up is obviously wrong as the EU legislation states you cannot be charged more than a national would be for a national identity card.

They are handy for id purposes as they have a photograph. Not everyone has a driving licence and it would save you having to carry a passport.

They may become compulsory in the future and people are pre-empting the new rules. Lots of people have changed address so applying for the new TIE makes sense. The old green card is only permanent if you apply after 5 years so getting a TIE makes sense if you are in that situation.

Lots of reasons I would assume.

Thank you Marcliff
I guess that means you will have to renew your residency every 5 or 10 years when the mandatory one comes next year huh?

It has recently been stated that people who have residencia and are applying for the TIE card are clogging the system up! Yes, I know there are supposed to be two separate application processes, one for new and one for existing but the offices are finding it difficult to cope. If you need something with a photo on use your passport, you should carry it anyway.

Interesting, but why are people renewing this early to get a 5 year or 10 year card when the existing one has no expiry on it. I have a Spanish driving license with a pic already and passports, so covered at the moment.
But thanks for your post

More handy than the useless piece of green paper, got time on our hands could afford the 12 euros, why not.

I turned off accepting PMs and emails as I was getting about 4 or 5 every day. In virtually all the cases they were things that would help other members and should be put on the open forum.

I will caveat everything with:
I am not a financial adviser
I am not a doctor
I am not a solicitor nor involved in the legal profession in any way at all.
I am not a qualified psychiatrist nor even a counsellor for any problems at all.

I have, however, turned on accepting PMs for the next hour so if it is something that you feel can't be shared with others then please do so but any advice, comments etc are purely IMHO and not professional in any way whatsoever.
