Hi. It's a long shot. But has anyone applied for a Irish passport on the back of your dad/ mum or grandparents been Irish. My dad was born in Cork and came over to England when he was 4 years old with his dad who was also Irish. I've been told that because my dad was Irish I can get a Irish passport. My dad has now passed away. I just don't know where to start. I've looked on the Irish passport website but I'm not sure what documents I will need of my dad's. He didn't have a Irish passport he had a UK one. I'm asking because I've got a property in Spain and would like to stay more than 90 days. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Also can my children also apply on the back of my dad there grandfather?
Thanks.

If your father was born in Ireland, you can apply for an Irish passport without any complication. See link here with the necessary information. It looks like you will need a copy of your father's birth certificate, possibly parents' marriage certificate. ( and all the usual documentation of your own, your own birth certificate etc. ) https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/t ... sport.html

I’ve done exactly what you are asking, I had to get a copy of my Dads birth certificate as I didn’t have the original, you then apply online and then send the documents you will need to go with the application, ie your birth certificate phot Id and someone to authenticate it. Mine took 3 months to come back but I now have my Irish passport. By the way if your Dad was born in Ireland you are automatically an Irish citizen.

Hi, I did exactly what you wish to do by googling all my questions. I submitted Dads birth, death and divorce certificates (marriage cert got destroyed) as well as my own documents ie. Birth and marriage certs. Plus a certified photo. All details are on the Irish passport office site. Cost about 90 euros and took nearly 3 months to receive passport. Using it now with no problems at border control. Your children could also apply but if they were born outside of Ireland, they would have to be on the foreign births register first. This is a similar process of certs but takes a lot longer( last I heard , it was about 18 months) poss delayed by covid.
