If in the UK my daughter is registered to have Power of Attorney over my financial affairs and my son over my health matters, will these still be applicable in Spain when I get residency? Or is there a separate Spanish government body I need to register them with?

Chrisdee wrote:You need to get a Spanish one. You can probably get it translated but they charge a fortune per word and then it has to go through the notary so best to start again in Spain

Thanks Chrisdee. Do I have to do it through a solicitor or is there an online application do you know?

I'm affraid I don't know about online, maybe just pop into a notary and ask, they won't charge for asking. We did ours through our lawyers then they took it to the notary but you could cut the middle man out and save a bit ? Might be worth just asking, something to do.

Hi TonTri,

You have 2 options actually.

1. If the LPAs themselves have already been registered with the Office of the Public Guardian in the UK then they can have an ''apostille'' attached which would then indicate to any agreeable jurisdiction that they were official legal documents. The documents would then need to be translated into Spanish for use in Spain.

2. Arrange for new Powers of Attorney to be granted in Spain

Thy Will Be Done (Spain) Ltd are based in Quesada and are Power of Attorney specialists.

All of our advice is FREE at all times - you only pay if you engage us to work on your behalf.

You can hear our adverts on the hour on BIG FM (we sponsor the news).

You can call and arrange to have a chat with me at any time either on 965 023 596 if calling from Spain or FREE on 0800 668 11 64 if calling from the UK.

Kind regards

Paul

A Spanish POA needs to be signed in front of a Spanish Notary, we have just done this a few months, so we can complete a property purchase
