Centipedes are not really very sociable. They do sting/bite and are carnivorous. They eat earthworms, which makes them on my persona non grata list, as I'm a keen gardener. They need a moist environment, so live under leafmould, etc.
I wouldn't hurt one - just not fond of them ;)

I had a particularly obnoxious one a few years back about a foot long which I saw through the window.
He was crawling away from the house, so I went to take this photo of him.
When I opened the door, he immediately started to come towards me backwards!
I took the photo and as he came nearer to me his head - the far end - raised up like a snake about to strike.
I had a long stick and held it towards him whereupon it suddenly flung itself round the stick! Which I then threw over the wall.
I gather they have two stingers which they use and is similar to a scorpion's sting!
Not seen another the same, but now treat centipedes with a lot more respect.

Mediterranean Tiger centipede.

From Eye on Spain
Found throughout Southern Spain and North Africa. The Mediterranean Tiger centipede is largest in Europe and can grow up to 150mm in length. The centipede’s markings change, depending on location.

Generally they are yellow with black stripes, hence the name tiger. Nocturnal and venomous; they can give a nasty bite. Rarely lethal, unless algeric to the venom, their stings are none-the-less extremely painful and require medical assistance. They were given a toxic rating of two.

As it says rarely leathal but can cause anaphylactic shock in certain people best not to mess with them.
