Lemon and orange trees

We got our lemon tree there, off next week for a lime .....plenty of choice, bought a load of plants and some big pots which were reasonably priced.

Posted: Thu May 23, 2019 7:49 amWe bought a lovely orange and lemon tree from Natur Plants last October. The chap who does our garden recommended it to us and said he buys all his customers' plants from there. They also had a lot of choice and good prices for large trees.

Posted: Thu May 23, 2019 7:15 pmWe have been really keen on getting either a lemon or a lime tree for some time. It would have to be in a planter though. The other issue is that we don't live permanently in Spain but do visit approx every 5 weeks. Is this viable or are they likely to die due to infrequent watering please. We do have a couple of small palms that have thrived for several years like this but are citrus plants different? Thanks.

Posted: Thu May 23, 2019 7:38 pmLemon trees are probably your best option, as they fruit all year around. I think they’re the only citrus fruit to fruit and flower at the same time.
If you buy a tree that has lemons on it they may fall off because of the shock of being transplanted, and if they don’t fall off then the tree may stop producing new fruit for a while.
It seems that they like to be drenched with water every few weeks as opposed to being watered too frequently, but once they’ve settled down and started flowering/fruiting then they need very little attention. My neighbour describes them as being like weeds once they’re established, but getting them to that point can take a couple of years.
Also, the lemons tend to stay on the tree without dropping for quite a while, so those that ripen between visits may well still be on the tree and fine for picking when you return.
