How safe is my dog if burgled

Hi everyone, hope you are keeping safe in this weather,

This is really worrying me but I am not sure if I am being irrational so appreciate any honest advice. Im staying with family in Spain currently looking for an area to rent for me and my dog, I know there are burglaries in all different areas and while I don't relish the thought, losing my things I can live with, but what would happen if I was burgled and my dog was home alone, would they steal him or hurt him? its really scares me so much that I try and take him everywhere with me and if I do go out I worry about him being home. While I am staying with family its not so bad but getting a rental place of my own there will always be time I need to leave him in especially if I want a social life.
Also is it mostly houses that get burgled, are apartments maybe a bit safer?
He is a 7 year French Bulldog and would go off with anyone who smiles at him so no one would be scared of him!
I know I worry too much but I'm from an island where you rarely hear of burglaries so its all new to me - am I being daft? Thanks everyone xx

I have never heard of dog being stolen in a burglary.. in fact, having a plaque on the wall showing a dog... a BIG dog .. will most likely deter burglars..

You cannot protect your loved ones from everything... if you take him with you in the car what happens if you have a crash?..... what will happen to him if you have a heart attack while walking.?... supposing a BIG dog attacks him?..or he eats some caterpillars?

You have to do your best and that is all you can do...If you keep worrying about what mightl happen in the future you will not live happily today...

I'm sure you will find that the UK average of burglaries is much higher than the average of Spain.
Most of the crime in our area is petty crime and when a burglary happens it is worrying to hear but, as awful and uosetting as it is for the victim, it really is blown out of proportion on the forum (or any forum). There are thousands of people living happily in Quesada and the surroundings and most of them luckily have never experienced a burglary. Just take sensible precautions with your security (there's enough advice on this forum) and you should be OK. As for the dog, I've never heard of anyone worrying about this in the UK. I believe burglars would be too bothered about carrying valuable items than a dog and dogs bark by nature and cowardly thieves don't want to bring attention to themselves. Hopefully the dog would bark if they hear any noise and would possibly deter anyone from entering the property if they hear a bark. They do like an easy target!
By all means look for a secure property on a gated complex if it will give you peace of mind, as you will be living alone, but I wouldn't worry about the dog during a burglary as that really is an irrational worry in my opinion.

Hi all,
Thanks for your replies and honest replies, thats all I needed to hear. I've been cocooned on an island for 40 years and have let the odd comments stick in my mind so I just wasn't sure if taking a dog was a thing, great to hear is isnt, I can and will relax now and stop blinking worrying! I wouldn't mind but i'm the sort of personal that doesn't stress or worry about anything but now I have my dog with me i've gone into crazy mode - at least I know it!
Thanks again xxx

Hope everyone is ok today after crazy weather weekend

I love the irony of 'Welcome to the forum'. Bloody rude reply and totally unnecessary.

You are not being daft.... irrational fears are still fears... some people are frightened of moths or mice.. it is an irrational fear but a very real fear...

You doing right by asking for information and that is good...it seems the information has helped.. but some things you cannot control so you just do your best...

... good luck and I am sure we all hope you have a wonderful time in Spain...

any other questions, please ask ... someone is bound to know the answer..

Hola Keri002, if your dog is little in size you can get you house alarmed in away that you can set your alarm when you go out with your dog inside, he can have free moment in your home and the house is fully protected. I hope this helps, Please excuse the rude person on here maybe one to many sherries.
