Hi
The European Commission has allowed a group to launch a petition calling for permanent EU citizenship after Brexit. You can sign at https://eci.ec.europa.eu/002/public/#/initiative
Everyone should sign up.

I was of the understanding that if you have full residency in Spain then you are automatically an EU citizen

You can check on here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizensh ... pean_Union

The link you gave says clearly "Citizenship of the European Union(EU) is afforded to qualifying citizens of European Unionmember states." Nothing to do with residency. So UK citizens currently are also EU citizens. But when the UK leaves they lose their EU citizenship, and all its associated rights, as well.

Not sure the petition will do much good though, would be lovely idea if it worked but no harm in it I guess.

Some form of EU citizenship for UK nationals has been discussed at EU parliament and in the press for some time. It has received support from, amongst others Guy Verhofstadt https://www.facebook.com/GuyVerhofstadt ... 248870016/

I tried to sign up to the petition, selecting "UK" as my Member State and "No" to living in the UK, but received this error message:

"In accordance with Annex III – Part C of Regulation (EU) No 211/2011 on the citizens' initiative, only residents in the United Kingdom can use this form. UK nationals living in another member state should if possible use the form provided for that member state."

Anyone know if Spain has a form (amongst the millions it does have!)? :o)
