You can't change your driving licence if you are a non resident.
You may need an International Driving Permit from the post office at about a fiver for 3 years but, then again, you might not.

Yes, it's been pointed out several times on various threads.
However, if you are an official resident in Spain with an S1 then you will get an EHIC which you can use in EU countries and UK except for Spain (the SIP will cover you for that).

Spain have said that they will not be asking for IDP's but personally I'd get one anyway.

The 1949 IDP which is the one you (don't) need only lasts for one year not three.

Quite correct. It's the other one that is valid 3 years. You may even need two types if driving through France to Spain (they don't make it easy, do they?)

Wish they'd all come up with the same thing, that is, if you need an IDP at all. Even the official sites say "may" need an IDP.

Lots of hire car companies may be turning people away if that is the case.

Your Spanish licence is valid in any EU country without an IDP.
