Spanish EHIC ( Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea (TSE)

As I have a Spanish and a UK pension so I'm not able to get an S1, hence I cannot apply for the new type of EHIC from the UK which retains our rights, I can however get a Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea (TSE) issued in Spain.

But I can't find the answer to the question: Will my TSE issued in Spain be valid in the UK after 31/12/20, anybody else in the same position shed some light on the subject.

The UK gov site says that, after Brexit, you will need travel insurance to cover you when visiting a non EU/EEA country with the EHIC or TSE.
You must also buy comprehensive travel insurance to cover anything not covered by your TSE, EHIC or for travel to countries outside the EU.
I guess that means no.

On the plus side, if you have an emergency in UK I doubt if you'd be refused treatment.

I’m sorry if this has already been mentioned....but, still a bit confused! If we are Spanish residents do we apply for an EHIC or a TSE?

AFAIK, you apply for a EHIC if you are a resident in Spain covered by a S1.
If you are resident in Spain without a S1 you apply for a TSE. The TSE will cover you for healthcare within the EU and in the UK until 31st December 2020, after which time you'll need travel insurance for travel to the UK.

As Paul58 says, you get a UK issued EHIC if you are covered for healthcare in Spain with the S1 as a resident over pensionable age, have an exportable disability pension and a couple of other reasons (like student for example).

You can only get a TSE if you are covered on the Spanish health system for any other reason, such as a citizen (not resident), working and paying into the social security system or a member of the household who does, self employed and paying autonomo and so on.

You cannot get a TSE if you have private insurance or the convenio especial.
