Is this election going to be a bigger problem for Europe then Brexit?
And what are the other regions thinking.

90% of 42% of the population voted to leave. Not really a convincing result. The violence being reported on TV news was only very isolated and mainly in Barcelona. Many other towns and villages voted in peace.
As a Spanish friend said to me yesterday "we don't want another Franco" and apparently that is the way Carles Puigdemont is going!
An interesting fact I notice on Facebook (that reliable source of factual news...not) is that many of the same people who voted remain, now support Catalunyas independence. Find the logic in that if you can.

From what I can see the vote was illegal..

...so no surprise that the police wanted to stop it..

..and the people who want to stay with Spain said they would not vote (as it was illegal) so the results are worthless...

that is as I see it..

Maybe others will enlighten me..

You're correct Mondo, Catalonia's "referendum" is illegal. Following Franco's death, Spain's transition to democracy included the creation of a new constitution in 1978, which was approved by more than 90% of Catalan voters and gave broad autonomy to the regions, but affirmed “the indissoluble unity of the Spanish nation”. Only the Spanish parliament can change the constitution.
