It is illegal to tow a car in Spain, it must either be on a trailer or grua.

apparently , Spanish rules are . you can only tow a car by contacting the breakdown companies. I understand that this applies in Spain. Previous times that my car has broke down I had to have the official breakdown company to move the car.Has anyone else experienced this problem ?

As long as the car is on a trailer or Grua it need not be owned by a breakdown company it can be transported

But as you say if you breakdown your insurance covers you and you should call them.
