wood for wood burner

Hi Guys, we have a wood burner and know that you have to use different woods ie ones that light and ones that slow burn, could you folks that have them help on types of wood please.

Generally, open grained softwoods like pine burn quickly, whereas fine grained hardwoods like oak burn slower.
There’s a large wood yard in Los Perez that stock lots of different types of wood and I’m sure they’d give you some advice and you could pick-up some small quantities to try. They deliver larger quantities is needed.

Thanks Peter, yes this is where we get our wood but interested to know about the types....there are sooo many.

I try to buy orange or lemon wood as it burns slow and gives a lot of heat, I find that live wood smoulders and is heavy

Fruit wood to start - Orange, lemon. Then for slow heat, Olive wood

Sorry but Lemon and orange wood is a fast burning wood

I like Olive wood... or oak.. expensive, but slow burning and hot...

It depends on what size logs you are putting in... starting the fire with "normal" sized olive logs you can use firelighters or pallet wood. But if the logs are great big half trees you will need to start with smaller ones... and don´t be frightened of burning zonking great olive logs once the fire is burning... if you can get the log in the box, it will burn... and one could last all evening
