Yes you are supposed to notify the insurance company if you have a tow bar fitted as they will then cover whatever you are towing, there is a question on most insurance quotation fors thats asks if a tow bar is fitted and whoever did your insurance should have asked you I ask all my clients when I quote for vehicle insurance

Agreed Fred , but the policy was a continuation of the previous one for an identical van [ which had a tow bar fitted and noted on policy ] which was written off ¬!!!
As I have an excess of 250 e I can source all the identical stolen parts and have them fitted in the UK when I go back in a couple of weeks and still have change , so it is a no brainer .
I only mentioned this as a warning to others to check their policy details against the vehicle they own to stop them being out of pocket .
