Beware....I was stopped this morning close to Gamma in Quesada by a couple in their 30s driving a black VW Golf who asked for directions to a jewellery shop to buy a gift for their daughter of about 8 yrs who was apparently Ill in the back seat. The male driver then began a discussion with me on the quality of gold, he showed me the stamp on the inside of his own ring which he said was Turkish gold.
He then asked me to remove my rings so he could see the hallmarks. I of course refused to take my rings off and after a couple of attempts to get me to remove my rings they drove off and turned into the high St before I’d a chance to take a pic of his number plate. So please be careful or you could loose your jewellery

This has been going on for years, every now and again this scam raises it's ugly head. Sometimes it's a driver or passenger holding out a map, asking you to point on the map where a certain place is, hoping you will come up to the window where they can snatch necklaces, watch or bracelets.

This has appeared to happen to us and it could have been genuine but I just nodded and pretended we didn't understand (without saying a word!) and kept walking. That's the best thing to do - As has been said a few times on this forum , most of us are too polite for our own good and want to help but it's best to ignore anything like this and walk on. Same as anyone coming to your house/gate (without an appointment)...just ignore them !

I saw the petition scammers on the front of torrevieja and la Mata last month and I could not believe the people who fell for it. Shame for those who gave money away like that. Maybe we need a list of scams under a separate title.

This topic is in the Neighbourhood Watch forum where all these kind of scams are, so they are easy to find and look through anytime.
